MDF – Medium Density Fiberboard

bg-paineis-madeira-MDF

MDF is a reconstituted wood panel, like MDP and HDF. MDF is the acronym for medium-density fiberboard. Wood fibers are bonded together and compacted with synthetic resin, using pressure and heat in a cutting-edge continuous press. MDF is a homogeneous high-density industrial panel, with excellent dimensional stability and a smooth surface.

Characteristics

MDF comes in panels; its main advantage that it can be machined on its edges as well as faces. Because of the density and homogeneity the fibers provide, MDF panels can easily be turned, carved, and machined.

Uses and Applications

Because of its characteristics, MDF is widely used in the furniture industry for front-facing surfaces that are engraved or feature bas-relief, back surfaces of furniture, drawer sides and bottoms, as well as a variety of crafts. In the construction sector, it is used to produce flooring, molding, door woodwork, door jambs, machined doors, lathed components such as stair banisters and table legs, as well as in packaging.
